If you're reading this page, chances are that have been using my Comics Kingdom Viewer page and are now wondering you can no longer see the comics. What happened is that the Comics Kingdom is now checking the referrering url so that images can no longer be hotlinked from sites not affiliated with the Comics Kingdom.
There are a couple of ways around this, based on the principle that you can load the images if no referer[1] is given by your browser.
If you are using Firefox, you can turn off the referer information as follows:
about:confignetwork.http.sendRefererHeader and press "enter."| Preference Name | Status | Type | Value |
|---|---|---|---|
| network.http.sendRefererHeader | User Set | Integer | 2 |
Double-click the value "2" and change it to "1" or "0" ("1" will probably have fewer side-effects when visiting other sites). Save these directions in case you need to change the vale back to "2" for some website that may require it to work properly. In particular, reading comics on newspaper sites such the Houston Chronicle or newspaper sites associated with the Comics Kingdom seem to require image links to have referer status sent.
For more information, see the following pages:
If you are using Opera, you can just press "F12" and uncheck the box that says "Send referrer information."
An alternative is to save the page to your local disk (not the page with forms, just the one that has the comic images). Give it an extension that has ".html" and then click on it from your windows explorer.
[1]: Yes, I know it's spelled wrong. The original documentation spelled it that way; see the wikipedia article on HTTP Referrer for explanation.
